What is this place?
A brand new site (many months in the making) that allows fans to build playlists across multiple streaming video platforms. Playlists on this network allow for a mix of vids from You Tube, Vimeo, Peertube, Tumblr, etc. This site is a proof of concept and currently in its very early stages. It is being built by fans for fans.
Are these vids hosted on VIDDERCON?
No, the vids are where they vidders hosted them - on Youtube, on Vimeo, and other streaming sites. We're using the same embed codes that the vidders use to embed them on AO3. What Viddercon does is allow you to create a listing for the vid - with links back to the original location where the vidder uploaded their vid. This listing is what allows you to create your cross-platform playlist, vid show, or rec list.
As you wander through the site, you may come across other convention vids shows, vid challenges or personal recommendation playlists. The convention vid shows are unofficial collections that we've been using to help test the site using "real world" conditions. All playlists have been created using publicly posted info and all have been clearly marked as "unofficial".
I want to leave feedback for the vidders? How do I do that?
When the vids are listed on Viddercon, the person creating the listing has the ability to add a link back to an AO3 page for the vid (if there is one). In that case, there is a Blue Button in the right hand corner of the vid that says: "Comment at my AO3 page." This will take any viewer to the vidder's AO3 page.
If the person creating the listing did not link to the vidder's AO3 page (or the vid does not have one), viewer can click on the logo (usually in the lower right hand corner) and it will take them to where the vidder has uploaded their vid and they can leave feedback there.
My vid is on your website and I don't want it listed here.
Just contact us on our Contact Us page. We will remove it or your entire account no problem. However, we would prefer you consult us about your concern because we may be able to address it. Vidders can "claim" their accounts (after verification) and manage their videos. We have added several sophisticated privacy controls specifically to address account management. Vidders can make vids private on viddercon so only subscribers or followers can see the vid without requiring the need for a password.
I am a viewer, not a vidder and I want to create an account
Hang tight, right now this is still proof of concept. We will allow fans to make accounts as soon as the site is stable. For now you are able to search and play the vids. Once accounts are opened you can then start making playlists and adding favorites.
Are you making any money off these vids?
Absolutely not. Although we appreciate any support that you would give to similar organizations as there is a lot of work behind the scenes to make all this possible.
How are the vids being selected?
The vids are selected by fans. They select what vids they want to list on the site. You may see video shows from conventions like Kiscon, Vividcon, Wiscon, and Escapade. These are unofficial playlists and they are are clearly marked as such. They were created using public info posted by the conventions. If you are a convention organizer, please feel free to start your own official playlist.
Cool, are there any other issues we should be aware of?
This site is proof of concept and some functions are limited.
Some Vid Embeds Are Limited To Admins. Users will be able to automatically create listings for Youtube, Public Vimeo, and any PeerTube Instance vids. Private Vimeo vids, Tumblr and unsupported sites (Critical Commons or self-hosted) can be manually embedded by a Site Admin. If you have a vid you'd like to list, contact us at contactus@viddercon.com. If there is sufficient interest in the site, we can explore whether the code can be modified to allow users the ability to embed from these sources directly.
Categories will be organized around yearly conventions. If a convention category has not been created, please select "New Convention" and contact us so we can create a new category. Ideally, you should contact us before creating a convention playlist so we can have the Convention category ready. If you are makeing a rec list not tied to a convention, you can select "Personal Recommendation"
Playlist titles and descriptions cannot be edited once created by users. Please contact admins if you need to make changes.
Some fanvid pages appear on an endless repeating scroll. No, you're not experiencing deja vu. This is how infinite scroll works on web sites.
Subtitles can be uploaded but the site may not always play them back correctly (or at all).
Tags will primarily focus on panels and vid shows specific to a convention year.
Member to Member Messaging is not active. If you use the private messages don't expect replies because the other party is not receiving them
Vidder Credits/Names. The site pulls in the vidder's name as listed on original site. Occasionally, it reverts back to a default name. If that is the case, please contact us at contactus@viddercon.com and we will fix it.
